SAINT LEO, Fla.—The men's golf team teed it up for round two of the Sunshine State Conference Golf Championship on Monday from Lake Jovita, looking to make up some ground after struggling in the opening round. Saint Leo improved in second round of 18 holes, shooting a 304 to put their tournament total at 317-304—621.
Despite much improved play, Saint Leo is still in ninth place entering tomorrow's final round, but significant ground was made up. The Lions trail eighth place Tampa who is sitting with a score of 303-302—605.
The Lions were led in the second round by Nick Brothers who carded a 74—six strokes under what he scored in yesterday's opening round. Austin Grey improved his score as well, firing a 76 in the 18 holes played today, bringing his tournament total to 79-77—156.
Chaz Heinz took three strokes off of his first round score as he posted a 77 in today's second round action. Ryan Connors rounded out the group on Tuesday, turning in a score of 80 to bring his total for the championship to 79-80—159.
Trevor Joseph, who shot a 79 in the first round yesterday, came back strong with a 77 today, moving his tournament total to a 156.
Saint Leo used its familiarity to the course in its favor today and will look to do the same thing tomorrow and climb up the leaderboard.
