SAINT LEO, Fla. –The Saint Leo men's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring with an impressive final round in which they finished tied for second place with after a round score of 302.
The Lions came into the final round trailing second-place Belmont-Abbey by seven strokes, but the Lions play remained consistent while Belmont-Abbey took a dive. Both teams finished with a total score for the tournament of 904.
Lynn University, who held a substantial lead heading into the final round, kept up that pace and ran away with the tournament crown in the final round. The Knights finished with a team score of 298 for the final round and 883 for the tournament.
Trailing the Lions and coming in third place was Warner University, who carded a 318 for the final round and a 925 for the tournament. Rounding out the field was the number one ranked team in the country, Nova Southeastern, who scored a 315 in the final round and 963 for the tournament.
Nick Brothers and Austin Grey both had solid final rounds with birdies on the 18th hole, and subsequently, both finished in the top 10 among individuals. Brothers carded the Lions' low round of the tournament with a 69 in his final round—good enough to finish sixth overall. Austin Grey remained consistent with his play and tallied a 75 in the final round for a seventh place overall individual finish. Trailing Grey were Trevor Jospeh and Ricky Briggs, who both carded 79 on the final round. Joseph finished tied for 13th among individuals. Rounding out the Lions was Ryan Connors with a final round score of 84.
The Lions get back in action this weekend when they compete in the Smokey Mountain Invitational in Fleming, Fla.
