Men's Golf in Third Place Heading into Final Round of Saint Leo Invitational
SAINT LEO, Fla. –The Saint Leo men's golf team opened up its spring season on Monday at the Saint Leo Invitational at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. After 36 holes, the Lions are in third place with a team score of 301-301—602.
Austin Grey paved the way for the Lions as he fired a 74-74—148 in the opening two rounds. He is currently in sixth place overall on the individual leaderboard. Three strokes behind Grey was freshman Trevor Joseph who contributed a solid 75-75—151 for the day. A stroke behind him was Nick Brothers with shot a 76 in both rounds, and taking the Lions' fourth spot was Ryan Connors with a 78-76—154. Rounding out the Lions' lineup was Ricky Briggs, who shot a 75-82—157.
"We all have to play better," Austin Grey said after the first two rounds. "We all have to shoot better numbers. Really that's what it all boils down to. We have to stay away from the big numbers. I myself had a couple double bogeys, I've got to get rid of those. We should be fine, we should be able to pull the comeback."
As a team the Lions are seven strokes behind second place Belmont-Abbey, who carded a team 300-295—595. Leading on the team leaderboard is conference foe Lynn University who had impressive opening day with scores of 288-297—585 to give them a 10-stroke cushion going into tomorrow's final round.
Competing as individuals for the Lions were Chaz Heinz, Codi Daudelin, and Justin Foster. Heinz leads the group of individuals with a score of 75-77—152. Daudelin carded a 78-76—154 and Foster rounded the group out with an 81-77—158.
