Men's Golf Finishes Opening Round in Seventh Place
DESTIN, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's golf team sits in seventh place at the Indian Bayou Classic after shooting a team score of 304 in the opening round on Monday.
The University of North Alabama leads the field with a team score of 239 in the opening round. They are followed by Columbus State and the University of Montevallo. Saint Leo trails Harding University by one stroke.
Austin Grey led all Lions after he fired an impressive 72 in his opening round. Trailing Grey by three strokes was Chaz Heinz who carded a 75. Following him was Nick Brothers, who shot a 77. Rounding out the Lions in the first round of action was Trevor Joseph and Ryan Connors, who shot 80 and 81 respectively.
"I was able to play pretty consistent golf with three birdies and three bogies. I'm looking to stay calm and focused and try to capitalize on being three back of the individual lead," Grey said. "The team remains the priority though and I hope that I can continue to play well to help move us up the leaderboard."
The Lions look to finish strong in Tuesday's second and third rounds and move up a few spots on the leaderboard.
