Brothers Sits 29th after First Round of NCAA Regional Tournament
CONOVER, NC – Saint Leo University men's golfer Nick Brothers turned in a first round scorecard 1-over-73 as he currently sits in 29th place on the opening day of the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional at the 7,064 yard, par-72 Jones Course in the Rock Barn Golf & Spa on Monday afternoon.
Competing as one of eight individuals, Brothers is locked in a 12-golfer tie for 29th, but more importantly he currently ranks fourth amongst competing individuals.
Starting on #10 with an early-afternoon tee-time, the Saint Leo junior bogeyed #11 and #13 but made the turn at even-par after birdies at #12 and #16.
Splitting another bogey (#3) and birdie (#6), the most deciding hole was a double bogey that Brothers posted on the 507 yd. #7, the second longest hole on the course. He earned a much-needed birdie to close out his round on #9, finishing the day at +1.
He trails West Georgia's Bryn Powers (1-under-71) by two strokes in the battle of individual competitors. Belmont Abbey's Adam Hedges (even) and Flagler's Greg Mergel (even) also sit in potential advancing positions.
Paired with his same grouping of Hedges and Eric Kennedy (Lincoln Memorial) the trio will start the second round as the last of the morning group from Hole #1. Tee time is scheduled for 8:20 a.m.
