LAKELAND, Fla. – Carding a first day 50–over 626, the Saint Leo men's golf team (314-312—626) currently sits in eighth-place after the first two rounds of the Sunshine State Conference Men's Golf Championships . Nick Brothers (75-80—155) currently leads the squad as he fired an 11-over 155, Monday afternoon from the par-72, 7,147-yard Concession Golf Club in Lakeland, Fla.
Overall, Nova Southeastern is comfortably in front as they concluded the opening two rounds at three-over 579 (298-281—579), while NSU's Oscar Lengden leads with a two-under 142 (74-68—142) after firing a four-under 68 in the second round. NSU leads by 19 strokes over second-place Florida Tech and Florida Southern.
The Lions, who sit 14 shots behind Rollins for seventh place, are led by Brothers as he fired a first round three-over 75 while concluding action in a tie for 24th. Meanwhile, Ronnie Carlson (76-80—156) is just one shot behind his teammate after shooting a four-over 76 in the first round; finishing five places farther down the chart.
Additionally, Justin Foster (82-76—158) shaved six strokes off of his first round score, as he finished in a tie for 35th.
Chaz Heinz (81-78—159) also improved his score in the second round as his three-stroke improvement saw him finish alone in 37th.
Rick Briggs (83-78—161) was the third Lion to post a second round score in the 70's as he concluded second round action at six-over 78.
Shooting two strokes better in the second round, the Lions collected 11 birdies while making true on 46 par attempts.
The Lions will conclude the 2012 SSC Tournament on Tuesday, April 17, as they compete in the third and final round at the Concession Golf Club in Lakeland, Fla.
