Men’s Golf Looking at Title Chance in Warner Match Play

AVON PARK, Fla. - The Saint Leo men's golf team finished their first day of match play at the Warner Invitational competed at the River Greens Golf Course in Avon Park.

While does not have a first-day recap posted (as of 1:15am 3/6/12), Coach Ray Cisbani did recap the day in an interview with

"After the first day the team shot 290 and 293 for a second place finish to earn a shot at the title," Cisbani said.  "This is a unique format where two rounds of stroke play are completed and then the two top teams play an 18 hole match play format for the championship."

"Nick Brothers led the Lions shooting a 72 and 68 to earn second place individual honors.  The team was a bit hesitant the second round and didn't allow themselves to take advantage of the conditions.  We need to get over the hump of being afraid to fail and to attack the course where it needs to be attacked.  Getting to a good number and then trying to protect it is the formula to fail, there is a reason we get to low numbers and when we have those days trying to protect a lead will only come back to haunt us."

"Hopefully tomorrow will be the start of a strong run towards the SSC Championship.  If they allow their talent to take over their game instead of fear, I only see good things in the near future."

The Lions will be competing against Webber University in match play starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
