LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's golf team jumped two places to finish fourth at the Start2Finish Webber Invitational hosted by Webber International University and competed at the Lake Wales Golf & Country Club on Sunday. Individually, Nick Brothers posted the second-best score of the day's competitors as he jumped five places to finish third.
The Lions posted a 54-hole total of 295-317-287—899, using a calmer final day weather-wise to post the second-best round of the day, and just the third-best total round of the entire tournament. Their fourth-place finish was 10 strokes behind second place Coastal Georgia and 17 strokes behind tournament champion, and Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins College.
Brothers' leap up the leaderboard was most impressive as he ended the three-round outing just three shots shy of the championship mark. The junior's final card read 70-77-69—216 as he improved his final round score by eight strokes, and missed the tournament's best round by two shots. He finished two shots behind Webber's Connor O'Dell and three back from O'Dell's teammate Gustaf Hydbom, who took home the individual crown.
Beginning to make a reputation for his final-round improvements, Justin Foster jumped into second place on the Lions, in a tie for 20th overall with a three-round 72-82-74—228. Two spots behind Foster was Rick Briggs, who posted a 78-74-77—229.
The Lions will next travel to Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla. on March 9-11 when they compete in the St. Johns Invitational. For the latest news, information, and updates on Lions' Golf and all other Saint Leo Athletics, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
