Men’s Golf Cards a Ninth Place Finish at the Rollins College Invitational
ORLANDO, Fla. - Nick Brothers continued to lead the Saint Leo men's golf team as the Lions worked to a ninth place finish after the final round of the 2011 Rollins College Invitational on Tuesday. The Lions posted a team score 303-304-298—905 as Brothers' 72-71-71—214 jumped him two spots from Monday's finish and put him in fourth place at the 7,001 yard, par-72 Rio Pinar Country Club.
After finishing in a tie the first day, Carson Newman posted a 4-under-284 in the final 18 holes to put distance between itself and Newberry, who finished with a three-round 296-287-294—877. The Eagles won the tournament with a three-round 292-291-284—867.
Posting his second-straight top-5 finish of the fall season, Brothers matched his round two totals and never shot higher than par for the tournament. He created a large gap between his finishing spot and his nearest teammate as he was the only member of the Green and Gold to finish in the top-half of the field. Brothers was followed by Ronnie Carlson, who finished 40th overall with a three-round 76-81-72—229. The even-par final round for Carlson leapt him into second on the team after his first two rounds saw him in the final counting card position.
Phil Horowicz carded a three-round 80-83-79—242 to complete the Lions' play.
The Lions return to action on Monday, November 7, when they compete in the University of Tampa Invitational and play at the Rogers Park Golf Course. For the latest news, updates, and information on the Saint Leo men's golf team, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
