MELBOURNE, Fla. – Monday’s windy conditions at the Titan Invitational (Hosted by Brevard Community College) gave way to calmer surroundings on Tuesday. After posting a second round 325 (+37) on Monday, the Saint Leo men’s golf team (307-325-309—941) improved their third round score by 16 strokes to close with a 309 (+21), giving them an eighth-place finish Tuesday afternoon from the Par-72, 6,945-yard Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Fla.

Overall, host school Brevard Community College (287-316-293—896; +32) took home the team title, outlasting Sunshine State Conference contender Florida Tech (301-306-296—903; +39) by seven strokes. Johnson & Wales rounded-out the top three as finished with a 48-over—912 (307-308-297—912). SSC foe Tampa slipped one spot from yesterday as they finished in 10th place (318-315-321—954; +90).

Despite the high scores, the Lions finished just 10 strokes behind Northwood University, narrowly missing a top-five finish.

Individually, Jacksonville’s Nick Soglanich finished with Brevard’s William Anderson, and Florida Tech’s Zach Potter with a seven-over—223. Eventually, Tech’s Potter struck with a birdie on the first hole of a three-man playoff to secure individual medalist honors. He carded a third round, three-under 69.

For the Saint Leo men, Lions’ sophomore sensation Nick Brothers (78-78-74—230; +14) finished just outside of the top-10 as his third round three-over 74 helped him secure a share of 13th place.

Senior Tom Lynn (74-83-77—234; +18) also demonstrated improved play from yesterday’s second round as he finished the Invitational in a tie for 24th with a score of 18-over 234 after carding a final round 77.

Freshman Mark Sabatino (81-82-77—240; +24) posted his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, seeing a five-shot improvement at five-over 77.

Sophomore Justin Foster (75-85-81—241; +25) and junior Ronnie Carlson (80-82-83—245; +29) rounded-out the Lions’ five golfers. Foster finished his two-day tournament one stroke behind Sabatino with a third round, nine-over 81, while Carlson carded an 11-over 83.

Saint Leo will now prepare for the Thomas University Invitational which is scheduled to take place on Monday, February 21 through Tuesday, February 22, at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Course in Valdosta, Ga.
