SAINT LEO, Fla. – Short of the team’s first NCAA Tournament appearance, the Saint Leo men’s golf team earned multiple conference accolades as freshman Nick Brothers was tabbed Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year. Also, seniors Cole Cisbani and JP Albuquerque were named to All-SSC Second Team; it was announced Friday by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones.

Brothers has contributed to the Lions success since his arrival to the SLU campus. A product of Crystal River, Fla., Brothers tallied a 74.8 stroke average over 22 rounds of action. He posted two top-10 finishes, including one top-five performance. Brothers tied for second at the Treasure Coast Classic and tied for seventh at the Titan Winter Invitational. His best round of the season was a 68 at the Treasure Coast Classic. His award marks the first time program history that a Lions have had a Freshman of the Year winner.

As for the All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team, Cisbani has been a steady force for SLU. The senior tied for second on the team with a scoring average of 74.1 in 19 total rounds. He shot a low-round 69 and posted three top-10 finishes, including two top-five finishes. His two best performances of the year came at the Spartan Invitational and Treasure Coast Classic where he finished second.

Albuquerque was the most consistent performer for SLU, firing every round in the 70’s. He closed the year with a team-best 73.6 scoring average in 25 total rounds. He shot a low round of 69 and posted three top-five finishes. His best finish of 2009-10 came in the fall where he placed 2nd-of-24 at the Saint Leo Invitational.

Voting for the all-conference women's golf team was conducted among the league's head coaches and sports information directors. The trio, along with a cast of others, will now put full attention on the NCAA Tournament. First round action begins Monday, May 3 with an early morning tee-off time.
