FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Posting a second-round 288 (+4), the Saint Leo men’s golf team jumped two spots to close the first day of action at the Sunshine State Conference Tournament sixth. The Lions completed the first two rounds with a 18-over-par 586 (295-288—586) at the par-71, 6,680-yard Grande Oaks Golf Course in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The tournament is being hosted by Nova Southeastern.

Overall, Barry University sits in first, combining to shoot a seven-under-par 559 (282-277—559). The Bucs also have the top individual performer as Carlos Velez posted a five-under-par 66 in the first round, and followed with a three-under-par 68 in round two to finish with an eight-under-par 134 (66-68—134).

Barry is followed by Nova Southeastern and Florida Southern, as they closed with identical scores of six-under-par 562. In fact, slots 1-through-5 are separated by just five strokes in the nine-team, 44 member field.

As for SLU, senior Cole Cisbani recovered from a first round 75, to shoot a team-low 69 in the second round. He closed played with a two-over-par 144 (75-69—144). Freshman Nick Brothers posted a pair of solid rounds, also finishing with a two-over-par 144 (71-73—144). Both sit in a tie for 17th.

JP Albuquerque wrapped-up the day in tie for 32nd, firing a seven-over-par 149 (73-76—149). Tom Lynn (76-73—149) also concluded the day with a seven-over-par 149, improving three shots from his first round 76 to shoot a second round 73. 

Senior Mark McGuire rounded-out the Lions’ group by solidifying an nine-over-par 151. McGuire (78-73—151) did show improvement, however, tallying a two-over-par 73 in the second round, shaving five strokes off his total.

The third and final round will tee-off tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. at the Grand Oaks Golf Course.
