HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s golf team stands in fourth-place after an opening round 21-over-par 305 at the Mission Inn Spring Fling (Hosted by St. John’s University). After having their original start date delayed one day due to poor weather, the Lions were able to get out on the course to complete first round action at the Par-71, 6,598 Yard El Campeon Golf Course.
Leading the way for the Lions after day one is JP Albuquerque, who fired a first day four-over-par 74 in a tie for fourth-place. Mark McGuire was one stroke back closing the round with a five-over-par 75 and currently sits in a tie for 12th. Joining McGuire is his teammate Cole Cisbani. Cisbani also fired a five-over-par 75, including a front-nine 36.
In a tie for 26th, Tom Lynn finished with a seven-over-par 78 and Nick Brothers rounded-out the Lions quintet with an 11-over-par 81.
The Lions currently trail a trio of DI schools, including leader Florida Gulf Coast, as it fired a 17-over-par 301. Stetson sits in second (302) and Appalachian State (304) is in third. Detroit’s Jeff Clarridge is the individual leader heading into the second round, posting a one-over-par 72.
Round two is set to begin Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m.
