MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s golf team closed the Titan Winter Invitational in fourth-place with a team score of 36-over-900 (303-305-292=900) at the par-72, 6,953 Yard Suntree Country Club, Tuesday evening.

The Lions placed fourth out of 11 teams, finishing ahead of both competing SSC institutions Florida Tech and Tampa. Ahead of Saint Leo was Darton Community College, Johnson and Wales, and eventual champion and host school Brevard Community College who closed the contest with a 20-over-par (293-303-288=884).

Darton’s Trey McQuaig was the individual medalist, shooting a closing round 69, on his way to a one-over-par (75-73-69=217).

For Saint Leo, freshman Nick Brothers had an excellent tournament closing competition as the Lions top finisher with an eight-over-par (75-76-73=224). He fell just one stroke shy of an all-tournament team selection. JP Albuquerque shot a final round score of 74 en route to a 10th-place finish (76-75-74=225).

Cole Cisbani ended the three-round tournament in a tie for 15th with a 10-over-par (79-75-72=226). His senior counterpart, Mark McGuire, rebounded from a second round 89 to finish with a 19-over-par (73-89-73=235). Rick Briggs improved 11 strokes between the first and third rounds closing with a 22-over-par (85-79-74=238).

Despite the conditions, the Lions had only one round in the 80’s and their third round score of 292 was the second lowest team score for the tournament.

The Lions now turn their attention to the Matlock Invitational in Lakeland, Fla. The tournament, hosted by Florida Southern, is set to tee-off on Monday, February, 15th.
