SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s golf program and Head Coach Ray Cisbani announced the addition of golf prospect Mark Sabatino to the Lions’ 2010-11 squad. Coming in as a potential NCAA Division I candidate, the Mechanicville, New York native instead chose the warm climates of Florida and the Sunshine State Conference for his collegiate career.
Sabatino was lauded by golf scouts as one of the top players in New York State with, what many scouts said was “no real weakness in his game.” A member of the Stillwater High School golf team since his seventh grade year, he has been slotted as the top player on the team for three seasons.
Leading his team to a perfect 14-0 record, Sabatino helped them claim the Wasaren League Championship, the league tournament championship and a sectional championship. In both postseason tournaments, the 5’9” right-hander claimed medalist honors. Despite graduation from high school, he will lead his team one final time at the state tournament in June.
Statistically, he holds less than a one handicap and a 35-stroke, 9-hole average as his lowest recorded 18-hole round is a 65 as he earned the Saratoga Lake Country Club Championship in both 2007 and 2008.
Sabatino will join Coach Cisbani and the Saint Leo golf team in August of 2010.
