OCOEE, Fla. – After having first round tee times pushed back due to fog, the Saint Leo men’s golf team wrapped up first day action in 13th-place with a 10-over-298. As a result of the delay in start times, the second round at the par 72, 7095 yard Forrest Lake Golf Course was suspended due to darkness.
The Lions, who currently stand 27 shots off the lead pace, were led by Mark McGuire and his 1-over-73. Following the senior was sophomore Rick Briggs who culminated the first round with a two-over-74. One stroke behind Briggs was his teammate Tom Crawford, as he closed the evening with a three-over-75.
JP Albuquerque finished up the round with a four-over-76 and Tom Lynn rounded out the Lions five-man team with a seven-over-79.
Currently, only nine strokes separate Saint Leo and the tie for sixth, while twelve shots separate the Green & Gold and a top-five appearance in the 15-team invitational.
Nova Southeastern is the current leader with a 17-under-271. Barry and St. Edward’s University round out the top-three teams.
The players will pick up where they left off at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27 and will roll right into the final round action at the conclusion of the second round.
