SAINT LEO, Fla. – After their victory in the Spartan Invitational at the beginning of the week, the Saint Leo men’s golf team earned a 10th-place national ranking in the latest GolfStat head-to-head rankings in the NCAA Division II fall season.
The Lions see fellow Sunshine State Conference school Barry University sitting in the top spot in the national rankings as they are 8-0 against top-25 competition and have also posted a tournament win this season. In earning their 10th-place rank, the Lions have posted an adjusted scoring average of 71.61, which is lowest of all the top-10 aside from the top-place Buccaneers at 71.13
Helping to bolster the Lions on the course are some Saint Leo individuals who are ranked in the top-15 in the nation.
Senior Mark McGuire, coming off a record-setting round of 64 in Tampa, ranks third in Par 3 scoring and sixth in subpar strokes per round, while another senior, Cole Cisbani, stands third in Par 4 scoring and 14th in subpar strokes. Senior JP Albuquerque stands ninth nationally in Par 3 scoring.
The Lions will have an opportunity to make some more headway in the national rankings as they host the Saint Leo Invitational this upcoming Monday and Tuesday. The Lions will compete with 18 other men’s and women’s teams in the two day tournament at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club next-door to Saint Leo University.
