MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - Junior Mark McGuire shot a second-round 71 as he jumped 32 spots in the second day of the 2009 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Southeast/South Super Regional in Alabama.
McGuire sits in a six-way tie for 54th place and his teammate, junior Cole Cisbani shot an second round 77 as he is tied for 89th place.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the par 72, 7,126-yard Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals in Alabama.
McGuire’s one-under-par was one of the five lowest scores in the 109 player field. After sitting in a tie for 86th after the first 18 holes, McGuire’s 79-71--150 was good enough to put him in the top-five individual competitors after 36-holes were complete.
Cisbani improved his day one total with a two-round 79-77--156, but with the rest of the field beginning to bear down toward the homestretch, the improvement was not enough as he dropped three places.
The final 18 holes will be contested on Wednesday. The event is being held in Muscle Shoals in the northwest portion of the State of Alabama and is hosted by the University of North Alabama.
