SAINT LEO, Fla. – For the second consecutive year, Head Men’s Golf Coach Ray Cisbani has placed an individual competitor into NCAA Super Regional competition. Golfers Cole Cisbani and Mark McGuire were both named to the 2009 NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional, it was announced over the weekend. Cisbani and McGuire will take to the course on May 3-6 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail of the Shoals in Alabama.
Cisbani was selected as an individual after leading the Lions with a scoring average of 73.9. The junior had a low round of 69 in 22 rounds played, won the Tampa Spartan Invitational and posted two top-five finishes. McGuire’s scoring average hovered around 74.7 throughout the year as he posted two top-10 finishes and a lone top-five result. The junior posted a low-round 71 in 22 rounds during the 2008-09 season.
The SLU duo joins 80 teams and 32 individuals that have been selected to participate in the regional competition of the Division II Men’s Golf Championships. Regional competitions will be conducted May 3-6.
The four regional tournaments encompass the current eight regions. The top five teams and the top two individuals not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 19-22 at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Wash.
The finals will be hosted by Western Washington University in Northwest Washington State.
