LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s golf team got their 2009 Spring season off to a good start as they rebounded from a first-round, eighth-place 294 to jump a spot after the second 18-holes were completed.  The Lions headed into the clubhouse in seventh-place after the first 36 holes at the 2009 Matlock Collegiate Classic hosted by Florida Southern College on Monday afternoon.

The Lions, who had a near-record first day, shot a 287 in the second round for a two-round 581 total.  SLU was lead by Cole Cisbani who was two-under-par, going one-under in each of the day’s rounds and currently sits tied in sixth.  Saint Leo saw all four countable scorecards with at least one round under-par as the Lions finished just 17 strokes out of the lead.

Mark McGuire finished day-one second on the Lions’ lineup, and 16th overall, shooting 71-74—145, and was followed by Tom Lynn in 29th-place overall with a 76-71—147.

The Lions’ scorecards were rounded out by Matt Cornuet, who finished in 45th-place with a 79-71—150 and JP Albuquerque who went 76-76—152 for a 55th-place finish.

Saint Leo will get things back underway on Tuesday morning with the final round that will tee-off at the Lone Palm Golf Club at 9:00 a.m. in Lakeland.
