TAMPA, Fla. –  The Saint Leo University men’s golf team shot a tremendous team score of 289, ending the day tied for second with St. Thomas University.  The Lions concluded the day just two strokes behind overall leader Brevard Community College, who shot 287.

The Lions were led by Cole Cisbani, shooting a team best 70 on the par-71, 6,802-yard course. Cisbani’s tally, was the second best individual score of the day. Mark McGuire was right behind him finishing tied for third with a 71. His day was marked by shooting a 33 on the back nine, including one of only three eagles on the day.

Teammates Matt Cornuet and Tom Lynn finished the afternoon shooting identical scores of 74, while teammate JP Albuquerque rounded out the Lions day with a 79. Each Lion improved or remained the same on the back nine during the round.


Behind Saint Leo was Webber International who finished just three strokes off the pace with a 290. Nine strokes behind Webber was host school University of Tampa, shooting a team total of 299. Eckerd College and Florida Tech rounded out the seven team competition by shooting a 300 and 301, respectively.

The second round was delayed due to rain. Both second and third rounds will be played Tuesday, October 7 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
