Saint Leo, Fla. (April 25, 2008) – Saint Leo University men’s golfer Matt Cornuet (Jr., Sebring, Fla.) has been selected to participate as an individual at the 2008 NCAA South/South Central Super Regional, it was announced on Friday.
Cornuet was selected as an individual after leading the Lions with a scoring average of 75.3 in 2007-08. The junior had a low round of 67 in 25 rounds played, and posted three top-five finishes. Cornuet’s highest finish was a runner-up showing at the 2007 Saint Leo Invitational, falling in a one-hole playoff.
The South/South Central Super Regional will be conducted May 5-7 and hosted by St. Edward’s University at Grey Rock Country Club in Austin, Texas. The five super regional tournaments encompass the current 10 regions in NCAA Division II men’s golf.
The top team from each region within the super regional and the top individual not with a team from each super regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 14-17 at the Division II Spring National Championships Festival in Houston, Texas. The finals will be hosted by Rice University and the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority.
