Viera, Fla. (April 14, 2008) – The Saint Leo University men’s golf team was in seventh-place following the opening 36 holes of the 2008 Sunshine State Conference Golf Championships in Viera, Fla. The Lions totaled 604 (298-306) in the first two rounds of play on the par-72, 7,057-yard layout at The Duran Golf Club in Viera, Fla.
Lynn University, Florida Southern College and Nova Southeastern University shared the lead following the first two rounds with matching scores of 577. Barry University was alone in fourth-place with a score of 582, while host Florida Tech was fifth with a 591. Eckerd College was just one stroke in front of Saint Leo with a 603. Rollins College and the University of Tampa rounded out the nine-team field in eighth and ninth-place, respectively.
Saint Leo was led by Mark McGuire (So., Clifton, N.J.) and Cole Cisbani (So., New Port Richey, Fla.), as each shot identical scored of 74 and 75 in rounds one and two to finish at +5 with 36-hole total of 149.
Nova Southeastern’s Greg O’Mahony led the race for medalist honors, as he carded a 68 and 70 for a 6-under-par total of 138.
The final round of the 2008 SSC Championships will be played Tuesday at The Duran Golf Club.
