Miami, Fla. (April 1, 2008) – The Saint Leo University men’s golf team finished tied for 10th-place at the Buccaneer Invitational hosted by Barry University on Tuesday. The Lions shot a 54-hole total of 898 (299-304-295) at the par-72, 6,786-yard Westview Country Club.
The Lions were tied with fellow SSC school Eckerd College in 10th-place, as Saint Leo broke 300 in two of the three rounds during the 54-hole event.
Host Barry University won the event with a team score of 865 (286-290-289). Columbus State University finished as runner-up, just two strokes behind Barry with an 867 (294-286-287). No. 6 Nova Southeastern University was third with an 871 (295-285-291). Johnson & Wales University (297-285-294=876) and Lynn University (287-291-300=878) rounded out the top-five in fourth and fifth-place, respectively.
Saint Leo was led by Mark McGuire (So., Clifton, N.J.) who carded a three-round on-under-par score of 215 (73-72-70), McGuire was tied for seventh-place overall, as Columbus State’s Andrew Georgiou won individual medalist honors with a score of 211 (72-71-68).
The Lions next tournament will be the 2008 Sunshine State Conference Championships April 14-15 in Viera, Fla. The event will be hosted by Florida Tech and played at The Duran Golf Club.
