Dade City, Fla. (October 30, 2006) – The Saint Leo University men’s golf team was in second-place following the opening two rounds of play at the 2006 Saint Leo Men’s Invitational on Monday. The event is being hosted by the Lions on the Par-72, 7,177-yard North Course at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
The Lions shot a team score of 593 (299-294) to finish just two strokes behind overnight leader Southeastern University (299-292=591). Johnson and Wales University was third with a score of 603 (301-302).
Saint Leo was led by freshman Mark McGuire (Clifton, N.J.), as he carded an even-par 144 (72-72) to put himself in a tie for second after the opening 36 holes.
Southeastern’s Matt Parziale was tied with McGuire, while Edward Waters College’s Brendon Ehlers led after firing a 2-under-par 142 on the opening day. Ehler’s day included the best round of the tournament thus far, as he shot a 5-under-par 67 on Monday’s second 18.
The final round of play will begin tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. with a shotgun start at Lake Jovita.
