Satchell earns SSC men's basketball Player of the Week

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo senior Justin Satchell snagged his first Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week honors after nearly averaging a double-double for the week ending Dec. 3. The Lions' forward helped Saint Leo to a 2-0 week with an 89-82 win over Embry-Riddle on Nov. 30 and a 99-93 win over No. 9/5 Barry on Dec. 3. he would average 24 points per game, 9.0 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game and one steal per game. 

Over the two games, Satchell finished just shy of a double-double in both games posting a 20-9 (points-rebounds) and 28-9 stat lines. Satchell finished the week with 48 points in 79 minutes played with 18 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. He shot .529 from the field (18-34) while going .500 from beyond the arc (7-14) and a perfect 1.000 from the free throw line (5-5) to help Saint Leo improve to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. 

In 34 minutes of action against Embry-Riddle, Satchell finished with 20 points and nine rebounds on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. Satchell grabbed three offensive boards and six defensive boards in the seven-point victory. 

In 45 minutes of action, including overtime, against No. 9 Barry, Satchell finished once again shy of a double-double with 28 points and nine rebounds. The 6-foot-8 forward shot 10-of-19 from the field, including 6-of-11 from deep with a 2-for-2 line on free throws. Satchell snagged seven offensive boards as the Lions outrebounded the Buccaneers on the night 39-28. Saint Leo finished the night plus-10 in the offensive glass category thanks to Satchell's seven offensive boards. Satchell added three assists and two steals Saturday night. On the way to overtime, the Miami, Fla. native hit four three-pointers to help keep the Lions in the game. While in overtime, Satchell scored the first eight of the Lions' 13 points, outscoring the Bucs himself. Satchell would tie the game at 89-89 on a three-pointer before hitting two key free throws with 1:46 remaining in the extra period to push Saint Leo ahead, 91-89. After a quick layup by Barry, Satchell came back down the court and drilled a three-pointer to push the Lions ahead 93-91, before Saint Leo went on for the 99-93 victory. 

This marks Satchell's first SSC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors in his career while it is the second one for the Lions this season, joining Marcus Dewberry who earned the first SSC Men's Basketball Player of the Week award on Nov. 14. 

Satchell and the Lions will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 10 when they travel to St. Petersburg, to take on the 7-2, 2-1 SSC Eckerd Tritons at 4:00 p.m. inside the McArthur Center. The Triton-Lions matchup will feature a game where win streaks are on the line as Eckerd enters the contest on a six-game win streak and Saint Leo enters on a three-game streak.
