The senior guard is one of two Sunshine State Conference players honored
SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University men's basketball standout Jerrel Harris earned yet another honor when he was named an honorable mention All-American by the Division II Bulletin. Harris is one of just two Sunshine State Conference players to be honored by the publication joining Florida Southern's Kevin Capers who was named to the second team.
Harris helped to guide the Lions to their third straight NCAA Division II tournament this season. During the two-game NCAA South Regional, Harris averaged 22.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and three assists per game in 32.5 minutes of action. He also shot 44 percent (11-25) from the field and a stellar 91.3 percent (21-23) from the charity stripe.
In Saint Leo's 75-67 opening round win over West Alabama, Harris scored 23 points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists. In the regional semifinal, Harris had 22 points, pulled down four rebounds and handed out four assists in a 61-53 loss to Delta State.
On the year, Harris averaged a team-best 19.5 points per game, while also logging 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per outing.
Harris helped lead the Lions to a school record 24 wins (24-9) and the No. 2 seed in the NCAA South Regional. He scored in double figures in 29 games, including tallying 17 games of 20 or more points. Earlier this season, Harris poured in a career-high 41 points in an 84-81 win over Barry.
