Foxx Earns Double-Double as Lions Fall to NSU in SSC Action
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Despite strong offensive performances from senior Chim Kadima and junior Ron Foxx, the Saint Leo men's basketball team (16-5, 4-4 SSC) fell to the Nova Southeastern Sharks (8-11, 5-3 SSC) by a 86-63 score, Wednesday night from the Don Taft University Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The Lions, who are currently receiving votes in the national polls, took an early 5-point lead in the contest, but the Sharks rebounded quickly to take control of the ball. In the fourth minute of play, Nova Southeastern grabbed the lead and never looked back, as the Sharks walked into the halftime period with a score of 44-30 in their favor.
After the halftime period ended, the Lions came out ready to claim their fifth Sunshine State Conference victory this season, but the Sharks' defense was able to withstand the tough Saint Leo offensive push.
As a team, the Lions shot 22-55 (40 percent) in the loss and outscored the Sharks from behind the free throw line by sinking 13 of 18 free throw attempts (72 percent).
The Lions' offensive push was led by senior Chim Kadima, who recorded 16 points in the effort, and junior Ron Foxx, who tallied a double-double with thirteen points and thirteen rebounds. Foxx also earned three steals and shot 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
Nova Southeastern, who leads the Sunshine State Conference in free-throw percentage and three-point field goal percentage, shot for 70 percent from the charity stripe and 57 percent from behind the arc.
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, February 1 when they host the visiting Rollins College Tars in Sunshine State Conference action. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
