Career Day for Harris Pushes Him to SSC Player of the Week Honor
WINTER PARK, Fla. - Saint Leo senior G Jerrel Harris has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week Presented by VALIC.
Harris led Saint Leo to a 16-point comeback victory over Barry, 84-81, with a career-high 41-point performance on Saturday. The Milwaukee, Wis., native scored 23 points in the first half, going 8-of-13 from the field and 5-of-7 from 3-point range. In the second half, the senior rallied the Lions with 18 points, including 12-of-12 from the charity stripe. Six of those free-throws came in the final minute of play to secure the win, including a pair of free-throws with one second left in regulation to push the lead to three points. Harris scored 19 points in a 59-57 setback at Tampa to begin the week.
Saint Leo and Harris will look to use the momentum from the road victory at Barry to propel them into one of the toughest tests of the season. The Lions will welcome fourth-ranked and undefeated Florida Southern into the Bowman Center on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game is scheduled to be a White Out as all Saint Leo fans are encouraged to wear white.
