Marcus Ruh Named to the Daktronics All-South Region First Team

LAKELAND, Fla. – Saint Leo University men's basketball senior Marcus Ruh has been named to the 2012-13 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-South Region team as it was announced this week.  His All-Region honor leads a new look to the team this season as there are only two returners from last year's All-Region Team and eight first time honorees.

Seven of the 10 players selected, including the five first team honorees, have helped lead their teams to the NCAA Division II Tournament as they will begin play this weekend at the South Regional Tournament hosted by Florida Southern College.

Ruh earns his first Daktronics All-Region selection after leading the Lions to a share of the SSC regular season title and its second straight NCAA Tournament berth. Ruh was named this year's Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year after averaging 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game and shooting 47 percent from the field, 49 percent from the 3-point line and 80 percent from the free throw line. The Green Bay, Wis., native was named a 2013 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year and was a First-Team All-SSC selection and a member of the All-Newcomer Team a season ago.

In addition to Ruh, headlining the First-Team honorees is the Alabama-Huntsville senior guard Jaime Smith, who earned first team honors a season ago and was named the South Region Player of the Year on this season's squad. Other first team selections include Alabama-Huntsville forward Zane Campbell, Eckerd senior forward Darrien Mack and Florida Southern senior guard Seth Evans.

The second team is comprised of Benedict senior center Marcus Goode, Benedict senior guard Xavier Collier, Florida Tech senior guard Julius Reid, Valdosta State senior forward Josh Sparks and West Florida junior forward Ellis Young III. Goode is a three-time Second-Team All-South Region selection, while the other four players earn their first ever All-Region nods.

The 2012-13 Daktronics Men's Basketball All-America Team will be announced on March 21. Ruh, along with the other first team members from each of the country's eight regions are placed on the national ballot with the Division II SIDs selecting a first, second and third-team All-America honorees.

While waiting on All-America balloting to be completed, Ruh will lead the Lions, the South Region's No. 4 seed, into a showdown with No. 5 Rollins College in the South Region Championship Quarterfinal Round game on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla.  It will be the first of three games in Lakeland as the Lions look to claim the South Region title.

The D2SIDA All-America men's basketball team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association.
