No. 16 Lions Tripped up by Florida Tech
MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the first time in almost a month the 16th-ranked Saint Leo men's basketball team did not pick up a win in a 76-50 setback to Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon in Sunshine State Conference action from the east coast of Florida.
A slow start from the Green and Gold saw Florida Tech (12-10, 5-7 SSC) jump out to a 12-1 lead just seven minutes into the game. The double-digit advantage remained throughout the contest, a margin the Lions (18-5, 10-3 SSC) would not be able to overcome despite midgame rallies to try a get back into the contest.
Held to its lowest scoring output of the season, Saint Leo was led by Trent Thomas with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Two other Lions reached into double figures as Shaun Adams and Jerrel Harris each dropped in 10 points.
Florida Tech was guided by Jermaine Jackson who scored a game-high 30 points in the victory. Terrance Tubbs added 17 and Randy Echols scored 11 in the Panthers' victory.
The Lions will look to rebound when they return to the Bowman Center to face archrival Tampa on Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
