Dominant Second Half Propels Lions to Victory over Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla.—The Lions used a 17-0 run in the middle of the second half to overcome a nine-point second half deficit to defeat the Lynn University Fighting Knights. Saint Leo improves their record to 16-4 and 8-2 in SSC play. Lynn falls to 10-10 overall and 2-8 in SSC play.

Jerrel Harris went 7-of-9 from behind the arc to score a team-high 21 points in the win. Trent Thomas totaled 19 points on the night after shooting a cool 7-for-14 from the field. Jaylon Bell contributed eight points—but his presence was truly felt on the defensive end where he continually played pressure defense. Shaun Adams completed his double-double performance at the free throw line to finish with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Lynn came out in the first half making baskets and coming up with stops on the defensive end. Thomas led all scorers in the first half with 12 points, but no other Lions were able to get much doing offensively. The Lions shot 42 percent from the field in the first half but just 3-for-10 from three.

Facing a deficit of nine points at the half, the Lions would go on a 17-0 run in the middle of the second half to take over the game. While the shots were falling on the offensive end, the Lions' defense held the Fighting Knights scoreless for over seven minutes. As a team the Lions shot 52 percent in the second half and 53 percent from behind the arc—with Harris going 5-for-5 from three points range in the second half. Adams had all 10 of his points and six of his rebounds coming in the second period.

After shooting 58 percent from the field in the opening half, Lynn went ice cold in the second half and shot just 22 percent and 14 percent from long range. Lynn was never able to overcome the Lions' 17 point run and make any sort of run of their own. The Lions outscored Lynn 48-20 in the second half to earn their eighth conference win of the season.

The Lions get back on the court on Saturday, Feb. 9 when they welcome Barry University to the Bowman Center.
