Lions Shake off Rust to Earn 73-67 Win over Palm Beach Atlantic
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team, coming off of a 15-day Christmas Break layoff, managed to shake off the rust and notch a 73-67 victory over host Palm Beach Atlantic University in non-conference action from south Florida on Wednesday evening.
The contest turned out to be more of a back-and-forth effort than Saint Leo (8-2) had hoped for with the hosts using 11 three-pointers to keep the game close. In a game that saw 14 lead changes and the Sailfish (1-8) holding a five point lead in the first half, it would be an 18-5 run midway through the second half that would slot the game away in favor of the Green and Gold.
Marcus Ruh shook off the rust faster than any other player on the court as he dropped in a game-high 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting and was one of three Saint Leo players in double figures. Joining Ruh were Shaun Adams and Jaylon Bell, both with 13 points on a night where the Lions shot 49.1 percent (26-of-53) from the field.
For the Sailfish, Christian Martinez led the team with 21 points as he dropped in five treys to keep the game close.
The Lions will now prepare for the first of seven consecutive Sunshine State Conference contests as Saint Leo welcomes Lynn University into the Bowman Center on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
