Lions Dominate Virginia Union 76-49

RICHMOND, Va. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team dominated from the opening tip as the Lions routed host Virginia Union University 76-49 in the first game of their two-state trip on Saturday afternoon.

Saint Leo (6-2) shot 46 percent from the field en route to their third-straight win.  After a back-and-forth first few minutes the Lions went on an 11-2 run to open up a double-digit lead which they maintained for the remainder of the contest.  It was a game where the Lions led by as much 29 points on the way to the win.

Dominating on the transition, the Lions outscored their hosts 20-2 on fast break and 44-16 on points in the paint, a season-high.  The Lions managed to bucket 36 points while taking advantage of 27 Virginia Union (1-5) turnovers.

Marcus Ruh posted a game-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting as he also went 3-for-4 from the three-point line and notched five assists.  Trent Thomas added 15 points and Shaun Adams dropped in 11 in the victory.

Calvin Brown scored a team-high 13 points for the host Panthers as the Lions held their opponents to just 31 percent shooting.

The Lions now head to Elizabeth City, NC where they will face Elizabeth City State on Monday evening.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
