WINTER PARK, Fla. – Saint Leo junior guard Jerrel Harris has been named Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week presented by VALIC.
Harris, a native of Milwaukee, Wisc., tallied 23 points, three rebounds, and an assist to lead No. 14 Saint Leo to a 75-60 win over Shorter in its season-opener. Harris shot a sizzling 73 percent (8-for-11) from the floor and was nearly flawless from three-point range, sinking 5-of-6 attempts (83 percent). He also went 2-for-3 at the free throw line.
It is the first time Harris has earned the weekly honor in his first season on the hardwood, and he is the ninth different Saint Leo student-athlete to receive SSC Player of the Week accolades in 2012-13.
Saint Leo will continue home regular season action on Wednesday, November 14, when they host Tuskegee University in a regional showdown. Tip-off for that contest is set for 7:30 p.m.
