ACC Men's Basketball Exhibition Showdowns Draw Closer

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's basketball team will face a pair of ACC powerhouses in a two-game pre-season tour as the 2012-13 season gets underway.  The Lions will travel to Coral Gables, Fla. on Friday, November 2 to face the University of Miami and will then head toward the panhandle to face No. 25 Florida State University in Tallahassee on Monday, November 5.  Both games will tip off at 7:00 p.m.

As part of the ACC doubleheader, Saint Leo will host pre-game receptions at both venues for alumni, parents, students, faculty, and staff.  The receptions will begin at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at tip-off with a special visit from a member of the Saint Leo men's basketball coaching staff to share insight into the game plan and thank fans for their support of the program.

"I am excited to play such an incredibly difficult exhibition schedule," head coach Lance Randall said.  "It is an honor to compete against two excellent programs from the premier basketball conference in the nation.  These teams have future NBA players on their rosters, great coaches on the sidelines and post-season experience under their belts.  We are very fortunate to get these games for our players and our fans."

The Lions released their 2012-13 schedule earlier this fall and it features 26 regular season games in a slate loaded with nationally ranked teams and NCAA Tournament participants, as well as Sunshine State Conference title contenders.  Coach Randall returns all five starters and 9 of his top-10 scorers from the 2011-12 team that became the first in program history to reach the NCAA Tournament and was narrowly defeated in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Championship by host Florida Southern.

"We are looking forward to coaching a team that returns so much talent and experience," Randall said.  "This is a tough-minded group that has embraced a steel curtain defensive mentality. We have added two very good veterans in Jerrel Harris and Chim Kadima as well as three talented freshmen that greatly upgrade our depth."
