Lance Randall to Speak at Tampa Bay Boys Basketball Coaches Association Year-End Banquet

TAMPA, Fla. – Saint Leo University Head men's basketball coach Lance Randall will serve as a guest speaker at tonight's 27th Annual Tampa Bay Boys Basketball Coaches Association year-end banquet.  The banquet will start at 6 p.m. and will be held at the David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Tampa.

Named the Sunshine State Conference's Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm, Randall has brought his history of successful coaching to Saint Leo, helping the Lions win 19 games and earning the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2012. He was only the third coach in the 45 year history of the program to earn Coach of the Year honors.

Randall led a resurgence in the Lions basketball program. He inherited a team that was picked last in the SSC preseason poll and led it to a third-place finish in the regular-season standings with a 10-6 conference mark. First with a 18-12 overall record, the Lions won nine consecutive games at one point, breaking a program record that dates back to 1987. The hallmark of Randall's squad is hard-nosed defense, and his Lions led the league in scoring defense and finished fourth in the nation, permitting just 58.7 points per game. Saint Leo also led the league in holding its opponents to a 39.6 percent field goal percentage and 30.4 percent three-point percentage.

The Tampa Bay Boys Basketball Coaches Association will use the evening's banquet to honor the top players and coaches in the Tampa Bay area.  Awards will feature the area's Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Team of the Year and All-Academic performers; in addition to many other awards that will be handed out.
