WINTER PARK, Fla. - Saint Leo junior guard Marcus Ruh has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week it was announced by league officials on Monday afternoon.
Ruh helped the Lions win their fifth straight SSC game in a row, averaging 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 block per game. The Green Bay, Wisc. native opened the week by tallying 19 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and two blocks in a 75-72 victory at Florida Southern. Seventeen of his 19 points came in the second half. Ruh then collected 26 points, six rebounds, and two assists in a 61-49 win over Nova Southeastern.
In two contests, he shot 60 percent (18-for-30) from the field and 88 percent (7-for-8) at the free throw line. The Lions' win streak has guaranteed their first winning season since 1997-98.
Ruh is one of 24 Saint Leo student-athletes, and three this week, to be named SSC Player of the Week in 2011-12.
The Lions will take their win-streak and memorable regular season into its final week where they will host cross-bay rival Eckerd College on Wednesday night. The matchup between the conference's no. 2 and no. 3 teams will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. in the Bowman Center.
