FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team had no response to a late 15-0 run by Nova Southeastern as the Lions came out on the wrong end of a 67-53 final score in Sunshine State Conference action from the University Center in South Florida on Saturday afternoon.
A neck-and-neck game that saw Saint Leo (8-9, 2-5 SSC) respond from an eight point halftime deficit to knot the score at 44 with 12 minutes to play, also saw the host Sharks go on a 15-0 run to reestablish control of the game. It was a run for Nova Southeastern (9-7, 4-3 SSC) that came at an inopportune time for the Lions as it left the Green and Gold with just three minutes to play.
It was a 23-6 run that finished the game in the hosts favor.
Despite the loss, the Lions were led by another outstanding effort from Trent Thomas, who dropped in 21 points in 32 minutes of action. Thomas would be the only Lion to register double-digits on a night when Saint Leo shot 37 percent (18-for-49) from the field.
Teddy Tassy came off the bench to score nine points on 4-for-6 shooting for Nova Southeastern.
The Lions will look to rebound from their third-straight conference setback when they return home to face Barry University on Wednesday night. The Lions and the Buccaneers will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Bowman Activities Center on the Saint Leo campus. The game will be broadcast live on the Rocket Sports and Entertainment Network nationally and 1350 WDCF in Dade City/Saint Leo/Zephyrhills.
