TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak on Thursday night when the Lions upended Florida College 72-52 in non-conference action at the Conn Gymnasium.
After a sluggish first half where the Lions took just a 34-31 lead into the halftime, the Lions came out of the lockers and connected on 15 shots, including six 3-pointers to out-score FC 38-21 in the period. The Saint Leo (11-14) defense forced the Falcons into early and hurried shots, with Florida College (7-18) connecting on just seven shots the entire half.
For the game, the Lions shot 56 percent (28-of-50) from the field while connecting on 40 percent (10-of-25) of their 3-point attempts. The Falcons shot a lowly 26 percent (7-of-27) in the second half and posted a 38 percent (20-of-53) average in the game.
Saint Leo senior Quentin Cullop scored a team-high 16 points in the win.
The Lions will remain in competition outside the Sunshine State Conference as they travel to south Florida and face Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Fla.
