SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University center Matt Kendrick has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending January 2, 2011.

Kendrick, a three-time winner of the award, had a tremendous performance in the Lions’ 80-65 win over Sunshine State Conference foe Lynn. In victory, the 6’11” sophomore collected 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor. Furthermore, Kendrick went 6-of-8 from the charity stripe and delivered a pair of assists in 26 minutes.

Defensively, the Tampa, Fla. native registered a game-best eight rebounds, in addition to tying a career high with eight blocks and three steals.

Both the Saint Leo men’s and women’s teams will continue their seasons this Wednesday, January 5 when they host SSC rival Florida Southern. Tip-off for the women’s game is set for 5:30 p.m. with the men to follow 30 minutes later.
