BRANDON, Fla. - On the day he was scheduled to meet his new team, J.J. Turner decided to arrive at Brandon High just a few hours early.

"I came in the gym two hours early and just looked around," Turner said. "I can't believe I'm running the show. This is where it all started for me."

On June 22, Brandon Athletic Director Tibor Kovacs announced Turner, who played at Brandon from 2000 through 2003, would be the new head boys' basketball coach, replacing Allie Turley, who stepped down from the position after two seasons as coach to become the new head girls' basketball coach at Lennard.

Turner played on Brandon's 1999-2000 state final four team and ended his prep career with 1,164 points. Turner played at Saint Leo University and after graduating in 2007 coached the boys' junior varsity team at Wiregrass Ranch in Pasco County for two years.
