SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo juniors Quentin Cullop and Jordan Prais scored a team-high 17 points each as the Lions defeated the Barry University Buccaneers 67-54 in Sunshine State Conference action on Saturday afternoon from the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
After a sluggish start saw the visitors jump out to an early 8-1 lead, Saint Leo responded with an 18-4 run that opened up a seven point advantage with 7:10 left in the first half. Barry would retake the lead at 20-19 just two minutes later but SLU answered with a calculating run that saw them take an eight-point lead into the halftime.
Saint Leo quickly opened up a double-digit lead out of the intermission and maintained control for a majority of the final 20 minutes, only seeing the Bucs cut the lead to four twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
After BU cut the Lions’ lead to just 41-38 Saint Leo would seal the game as they went on a 15-3 run to shut down any Buccaneer attack and put the SLU lead into double-digits; where it would stay through the remainder.
Besides Cullop and Prais, the Lions saw 11 points from senior Kyle Rowland as almost every player wearing Green & Gold that stepped on the floor scored points.
The Lions, who were 40 percent (23-for-58) accurate from the field, made up for that from behind the three-point line as they shot 50 percent (9-for-18) in the win.
Saint Leo will now travel to Winter Park and face the Rollins College Tars on Wednesday evening. The Lions and Tars squared off in the Bowman Center on the first weekend of January with a 93-83 decision falling to the Tars. The game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the Saint Leo Lions AudioCast Network.
