SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo junior forward Jordan Prais was named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by Commissioner Michael J. Marcil. During the Lions’ opening week of play, Prais exploded on the offensive end of the court averaging 22.0 points per game on their way to a 3-0 start.
The Lions posted wins over the University of Puerto Rico–Cayey, the University of Puerto Rico–Bayamon and the University of Puerto Rico–Rio Piedras in non-conference action.
In the Lions’ 89-72 victory over Cayey, Prais recorded a game high 27 points while notching seven rebounds and an assist. He continued his fantastic play against Bayamon, chalking up 18 points, four assists, a block and his second consecutive seven rebound effort in the 75-59 triumph.
Rounding out the week for SLU, the Lakeland, Fla. product helped lead the Lions to a 84-70 victory against Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. The forward tallied 21 points, six rebounds, three steals, and an assist.
For the week, Prais shot a scorching 82 percent (23-of-28) from the field, while averaging 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals. He also shot 67 percent from the charity stripe, connecting on 20-of-30 attempts.
Prais is the first Lion to receive the honor since Quentin Cullop was named Player of the Week in February of 2008. This is the second time in his career Praise has been named Player of the Week.
The honor marks the 10th time this season a Saint Leo student-athlete has been awarded the weekly honor.
The Lions look to improve their record tonight as they travel to Miami, Fla. to play in the CBE O’Reilly Auto Parts Classic against Division I opponent Cleveland St. at 5:00 pm. The game can be heard live on the Saint Leo Lions Audio Cast Network.
