Lakeland, Fla. (February 20, 2008) – The Saint Leo University men’s basketball team (12-12, 5-8 SSC) was upended 97-79 on the road by Florida Southern College (20-7, 11-3 SSC) on Wednesday night in Sunshine State Conference action at Jenkins Field House in Lakeland, Fla.

The Moccasins used a big second half to power past the Lions and earn a sweep of the season series.  Florida Southern turned an eight-point half-time lead into the 18-point win, but led by as many as 29 in the latter stages of the contest.

Saint Leo was led by guard Quentin Cullop (So., Winter Haven, Fla.) who scored 17 points, while Dusty Driggs (Jr., Sharpsville, Ind.) added 14.  Jordan Prais (So., Lakeland, Fla.) netted 11 points, and Jonathan Banks (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) rounded out a quartet in double figures with 10 points on the night.

The Lions had no answer for the hot shooting of Southern guard Rob Eldridge who finished with a game-high 30 points.  Will Graham added 25 points for the Mocs in the win, as the home team shot 46.5% from the floor for the game and made 12 three-pointers.

Saint Leo held a two-point lead at 7-5 with 17:19 left in the opening half, but it was the only lead of the night for the Lions.  Southern went on a 12-0 run and never looked back, leading by as many as 17 in the opening stanza.

Saint Leo closed to within eight at the half, but FSC wouldn’t let the Lions any closer early in the second half.  A late 15-3 run gave the Mocs their largest lead of the game, and although the Lions scored the final 11 points of the night the final margin was still 18 points.

Saint Leo will host Barry University on Saturday in another SSC match-up.  Opening tip is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the Bowman Center in the second half of an SSC basketball doubleheader.
