Palm Beach, Fla (January 2, 2008) - The Saint Leo University men’s basketball team defeated the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish Wednesday evening in Palm Beach, Fla. by a final score of 79-48 to improve to 6-4 on the season.

The Lions were led early in the game by sophomore Quentin Cullop (Winter Haven, Fla.) who hit three of four three point field goals and finished the first half leading the Lions with 13 points.  Sophomore Jordan Prais (Lakeland, Fla.) took control of the low block scoring 12 points, hitting four of seven shots and going a perfect four of four from the charity stripe. Prais would finish with a double-double scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 boards. Prais and Cullop combined for 25 of the Lions 38 first half points.

The second half would be much of the same as the Lions controlled the tempo for much of the second half. The Lions began the second half on a 12-5 run to blow the game wide open. Junior transfer Dusty Driggs (Sharpsville, Ind.) would take charge for the Lions scoring 11 points, and going 3-5 from the three-point line. The Lions would outscore the Sailfish 41- 27 in the second half to close out Palm Beach 79-48. The Lions outrebounded the Sailfish 45-34, including a 38-28 margin on the offensive glass.

The Lions defense was a major contributor as they held the Sailfish to just 31% shooting from the floor for the game. The Lions forced 12 turnovers and had eight steels. The Sailfish could not find the mark all night as they also struggled from the three point line shooting 20% and only hit 45% on their free throws going 5 for 11. The Lions’ offense was lights out as they shot 50% from both the field and the behind the arc.

The Lions open Sunshine State Conference action Saturday, January 5 at the Marion Bowman Activities Center at 4:00 p.m. against the Rollins College Tars.
