Washington, D.C. (December 22, 2007) – The Saint Leo University men’s basketball team (5-4) fell 93-58 to the University of the District of Columbia Saturday at the UDC Christmas Classic in Washington, D.C.
Saint Leo was led by sophomore Jordan Prais (Lakeland, Fla.) who scores 16 points, while George Eshesimua (Sr., Miami, Fla.) added 10 points in defeat for the Lions. Kyle Rowland (Jr., North Port, Fla.) also scored in double figures, finishing with 11 points in the game.
The Lions held a three point lead early in the contest, but eventually the host Firebirds gained control of the contest. UDC eventually led by 15 at half-time, thanks in large part to Willie Shaw’s 16 points in the opening frame.
UDC did not look back after the break, using a 19-2 run to run out to a 30-point advantage. The lead grew to as many as 37 points in the latter stages, before the final margin of 35.
Shaw led the Firebirds with a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds. UDC’s Charlie Smallwood added 20 points and dished out seven assists, while Justin Walker scored 15 points in the win.
Saint Leo will enjoy a break before its next game. The Lions will return to the hardwood on Wednesday, January 2 when they travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face Palm Beach Atlantic University. Opening tip is slated for 4:00 p.m.
