Saint Leo, Fla. (December 8, 2007) – Jordan Prais (So., Lakeland, Fla.) scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his second career double-double, but the Saint Leo University men’s basketball team (4-2) was edged 75-72 by visiting Flagler College (4-3) on Saturday afternoon at the Bowman Center.
Joining Prais in double figures was Dusty Driggs (Jr., Sharpsville, Ind.) who scored 14 points, including four three-pointers. Four Flagler players scored in double figures, as the Saints knocked off the Lions for the second time in a week.
The Lions opened the scoring with a lay-up by Prais, but a three-pointer by John Pietkiewicz gave Flagler the lead and the Saints would not relinquish it for the remainder of the contest. Flagler led by as many as 10 points in the opening half, but the Lions cut the deficit in half and trailed 36-31 at half-time.
Flagler opened the second half with a 10-3 run and eventually led by a game-high 15 when Lyndon Merthie connected on a three-pointer with 15:40 left in the game. Saint Leo chipped away at the lead, and used a 15-3 run to pull within two points with 2:43 remaining.
The Lions closed to within one twice in the closing stages, but Pietkiewicz hit five of six at the free throw line in the closing stages to secure the win for the visitors.
Saint Leo will return to action on Monday, December 17 when the Lions host the University of West Florida. Opening tip for the game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Bowman Center.
