Saint Leo, Fla. (November 17, 2007) – Jordan Prais (So., Lakeland, Fla.) and Dusty Driggs (Jr. Sharpsville, Ind.) scored 19 points apiece to lead the Saint Leo men’s basketball team (1-0) to a 104-71 win over the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon (0-2) on the opening day of the 2007-08 season on Saturday afternoon.

Prais added 10 rebounds for a double-double, while Kyle Rowland (Jr., North Port, Fla.) and Anthony Gomez (Fr., Tampa, Fla.) added 16 points and 15 points, respectively in the win.  The Lions outscored the Cowboys 60-30 in the second half, and shot 56.7% (34-of-60) for the game to get their season off to a winning start.

Saint Leo scored the first 11 points to jump to an early lead in the contest.  However, the visitors quickly came back and led 26-22 with 9:25 left in the opening half.  The Lions pulled ahead by eight with 1:52 left in the opening frame, but Bayamon outscored SLU 7-2 in the closing stages to make it a three-point game at half-time.

The Lions offense came to life in the second half, sparked by Gomez who scored 12 of his 15 points after the break.  The final margin of 33 matched the largest lead of the game, as the Lions broke the century mark for the first time since a 102-95 overtime win over Florida Southern in 2006-07.

The Lions will host the University of Puerto Rico-Cayey on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in their next game.
