Saint Leo, Fla. (January 29, 2007) – Saint Leo sophomore forward Kyle Rowland (North Port, Fla.) was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Lions to a pair of SSC victories last week.

Rowland averaged 24.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.0 assist and 0.5 steals per contest, as the Lions defeated Florida Southern and Lynn.  For the week, Rowland shot a solid 57.7% (15-of-26) from the field and 90.0% (18-of-20) from the free throw line.

In a 102-95 OT win against FSC, Rowland scored a career-high 25 points, and grabbed eight rebounds.  He scored 21 of his 25 points in the second half and overtime.  With the Lions trailing by eight with 1:39 left in regulation, Rowland scored five points, including a key three-point play, to help force the extra period.

He followed that performance with 23 points, four rebounds and four blocks in a 64-62 victory over Lynn on Saturday.  The win marked the first-ever for Saint Leo over Lynn, and Rowland’s jumper with 45-seconds left to play proved to be the game-winner.

The Lions will travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. to face Eckerd College tonight in their next game.  Opening tip is slated for 7:30 p.m. and the game can be heard live on the Internet by visiting SaintLeoLions.com.
